The emir of Kaura-Namoda, in the state of Zamfara, Alhaji Mohammed Asha, is dead.
He is believed to have died of complications from COVID-19 during treatment at an isolation center in Gusau, the state capital.
Confirming the incident to Channels Television, state health commissioner Yahaya Kanoma said the late Emir fell ill on Friday and was admitted to the Specialized Hospital in Gusau.
He explained that the deceased was immediately isolated after he showed symptoms of COVID-19 along with his wife, while his blood sample was collected for testing.
The commissioner noted that the emir died in the early hours of Sunday while the result of his sample was awaited.
He, however, said it will be too early to conclude that the late Emir died of COVID-19 until his results are released.
Meanwhile, all family members and close associates of the late emir are quarantined, while the hospital where he was admitted and other places he visited have been decontaminated.
The remains of the last Emir were left in line with the protocol and guidelines of the Center for Disease Control of Nigeria (NCDC), on the burial of the victims of COVID-19.
