Virgin Media is following in Sky's footsteps with a big announcement about its plans to help customers in the coronavirus crisis. Now, with millions working from home or isolating themselves to prevent the spread of the potentially fatal virus, ISPs are doing their best to keep people connected online.
Virgin has confirmed that, starting next week, it will deliver more than 2.7 million Pay Monthly customers unlimited minutes to landlines and cell phone numbers, plus an increase of 10 GB of data – at no extra cost. This useful incentive will last for a month.
Along with the free calls, Virgin Media says it is working hard to ensure that its broadband network survives the attack from everyone who stays at home.
The company stated that its technicians and support teams are keeping an eye on its services and performance to ensure they can respond to extra traffic.
In a post on its website, Virgin said: "The more people working at home right now, it’s important to know that our network can support any increase in usage, including peaks during the day, at night and on weekends. our existing capacity will be able to serve you – but we'll be keeping an eye on things and making changes if we need to. "
Another boost for homes is the news that Sky Go Extra will now be available to all customers for free and there is an added bonus for phone and cell phone customers. This includes all calls to UK landlines that are free at any time of day for existing Sky Talk customers.
All Sky Mobile customers will also receive an increase of 10 GB of data on their Piggybanks, free of charge. This can be shared between all SIMs in the account.
