While people speculate how the Cowboys who hire Andy Dalton can undermine Dak Prescott, Vegas remains convinced that Prescott will be an MVP candidate quarterback for Dallas in 2020.
Caesars Sportsbook gives Prescott 9-1 chances to claim MVP, placing him just behind Patrick Mahomes (4-1) and Lamar Jackson (13-2).
Prescott, still without a long-term contract with the Cowboys, has received mixed reviews since his spectacular debut season. Dallas has been 27-21 under his leadership since 2017, which equates to a pace of nine wins per season. He had a strong individual campaign in 2019, throwing 30 touchdowns for 11 interceptions, while defining career bests in yards for attempted passes and aerial yards per game.
It is surprising to see Prescott ahead of Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees in the MVP projections, given the consistency of their colleagues throughout their careers. In addition, Dalton's addition could portend drama in Dallas.
That said, Prescott must have a strong support cast that he can look at with the ball. The Cowboys tied Amari Cooper to a new contract and hired receiver CeeDee Lamb with overall choice 17 of the 2020 Draft. Michael Gallup will return as a potential breakout candidate after a 1,000-yard run last season.
Cowboys also give Prescott the advantage of national advertising weekly, with few organizations.
Apparently, Vegas is optimistic about Prescott, using these tools to create his argument as a true superstar talent, even if fans are not so sure.
