Former Nigerian international John Utaka has expressed confidence that Gernot Rohr will be successful with the Super Eagles, but must receive the necessary support.
Rohr's achievement so far with the Eagles is third place at last year's African Nations Cup in Egypt and qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The German coach recently agreed to extend his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation.
And Utaka, 38, believes that Rohr's good relationship with the Super Eagles players will lead to his success with the team.
"The boys know him more than the previous person, so give him that chance and support, as well as what little they did with Bonfere Jo at the Olympics," the 2002 and 2010 World Cup star told brila.net.
"He may do better than he did, but I think he will do a good job."
Utaka, alongside former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, helped Montpellier win the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 title, the first in the club's history.
He also won the FA Cup in Portsmouth in 2008, assisting Nwankwo Kanu, who scored the only goal in the 1-0 win over Cardiff City.
