The UN chief of disarmament warned of an increase in cyber crime Pandid-19 pandemic is moving the world towards increased technological innovation and online collaboration.
Izumi Nakamitsu, who was addressing an informal UN Security Council (UNSC) meeting on Friday, said; "Cyber crime is also on the rise, with a 600% increase in malicious emails during the current crisis."
"There have also been worrying reports of attacks against health organizations and medical research centers around the world," he added.
Nakamitsu added that the growing digital dependence has further increased the vulnerability to cyber attacks and "it is estimated that one of these attacks occurs every 39 seconds".
Meanwhile, more than 5.2 million people worldwide now have the coronavirus confirmed, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
A total of 337,000 people also died worldwide, while about two million people died. recovered.
