Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi on Sunday suspended the State Commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Samuel Okoronkwo, for allegedly compromising and neglecting border security.
Umahi, who gave the directive in a statement published in person on social media and confirmed by state information commissioner Uchenna Orji, said the suspension meant the commissioner's loss of a month's salary.
He also ordered a month-long suspension from the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Augustine Nwuzor.
The governor expressed dismay at the alleged commitment and neglect of duties when he inspected the state's borders at Afipo North and Ivo in the local government area on May 9.
He threatened to fire the two civil servants if there were no improvements.
He said: "All coordinators of development centers at Afikpo North and Ivo LGA are suspended from office and must move to" Member One "at their various development centers, including their official vehicles.
“All political nominees on these councils must remain on half a salary until normality returns, including all the traditional rulers of both councils.
"The presidents and leadership of the city's unions in Ebonyi are suspended and I will dissolve all the unions in the city in May this year, if things don't get better."
