Trump impeachment: opening arguments begin in favor of removing the president from office – live | USA News

D.C. Attorney General Karl A. Racine sued President Trump's committee and inaugural business on Wednesday, alleging that the committee violated its nonprofit status by spending more than $ 1 million to reserve a ballroom at Trump's hotel, which his employees knew which was very expensive and barely used.

During the preparation for Trump's inauguration in January 2017, the committee set aside $ 175,000 a day for the hotel lounge, in addition to more than $ 300,000 in food and beverage costs, over objections from its own event planner.

The committee was formed to organize the events around the opening, but Racine claims that "it abandoned that goal and violated district law when it wasted approximately $ 1 million in overpaid charity funds for using the event space at the Trump hotel" .
