Troops eliminate another top Boko Haram commander Abu Usamah – DHQ

Defense headquarters says Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD) troops have eliminated another Boko Haram commander, Abu Usamah, at a March 22 meeting in Gorgi, Borno.

Acting Director, Defense Media Operations, Brigadier-General. Benard Onyeuko, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

Onyeuko said the military communication confirmed by accurate information that Abu Usamah was among the Boko Haram insurgents killed during the meeting.

He explained that Usamah had suffered fatal gunshot wounds in the fighting that followed during the encounter, before his foot soldiers hurriedly evacuated him and withdrew.

“However, Abu Usamah died in the process.

“His death undoubtedly created a consequent vacuum in the leadership of Boko Haram, especially since the gallant troops remain resilient and continue to direct criminal elements from their last enclaves in the northeast.

“It is recalled that on March 22, OPLD troops, while carrying out a special liberation operation in a subsidiary operation called Operation AYISO TAMONUMA, decimated some of the main elements of Boko Haram at a meeting in Gorgi, in the area of ​​the local government of Damboa (LGA) of Borno.

“In our previous Briefing, we reported more than 100 Boko Haram insurgents neutralized while dozens of them escaped with gunshot wounds.

"This was in addition to several equipment victims suffered by Boko Haram insurgents," he said.

Onyeuko also disclosed that the troops of the 159 Task Force Battalion on March 27 neutralized dozens of insurgents from Boko Haram / West African Islamic State (ISWAP) who tried to infiltrate their location at the Kanama Advanced Operational Base, Yunusari LGA of Yobe.

He said the terrorists were severely wiped out by gallant ground troops supported by the OPLD Air Component.

“They withdrew in disarray under superior firepower and were subsequently crushed by their own troops.

“In addition, during the meeting, several terrorists were neutralized, while a gun truck and various weapons and ammunition were captured by the troops.

"These include; a DSHK pistol, two AK 47 rifles and magazines, a rocket-propelled grenade bomb, 273 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition, 101 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, 15 Jerri cartridges from Premium Motor Spirit and a terrorist flag from Boko Haram.

“Meanwhile, the Military High Command congratulated the gallant troops for their resilience, courage and dedication to the noble cause of defending our homeland against criminal elements. They were also ordered to remain firm and unforgiving against the enemies of our nation, ”he added.
