Tim Sherwood blasts ‘shocking’ Arsenal defender after Norwich draw

Tim Sherwood has blasted Arsenal star Shkodran Mustafi for his performance against Norwich on Sunday afternoon.

The centre-back was a surprise inclusion in Freddie Ljungberg’s first starting XI, with the German making his first Premier League appearance of the season.

But the 27-year-old endured another afternoon to forget against the Canaries, and received stick for both goals his side conceded.

And Sherwood believes it is easy to see why the German hasn’t featured in the league before the game at Carrow Road.

“I think Mustafi was a disgrace all game,” Sherwood told Premier League Productions on Monday afternoon.

“Someone of his experience, I just think he’s a nervous wreck, he doesn’t help anyone out.

“Now he should go straight to the ball, he should run straight to the ball.

“He can see David Luiz, he knows there’s no Norwich players in support.

“But instead he runs past him and then goes back there. He’s too deep, now Pukki just opens up the goal and smashes it past him. He was so bad, I cannot tell you how bad he was.

“Look, go to the ball and go and get the ball off him. David Luiz and him just stand there watching and the block was pathetic.

“That is an international player, who’s played three games at a World Cup, a World Cup-winners medal which we give him a lot of respect for, but that is not good enough.

“If you’re not playing well yourself, affect others around you.

“He does affect them – he’s a nervous wreck. He makes them all a nervous wreck.

“He’s shocking, no wonder [he hadn’t played before this season]. He’s terrible.”
