President Muhammadu Buhari dismissed the managing director of the Nigeria Transition Company (TCN), Mr. Usman Mohammed, on Tuesday and appointed Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, engineer, as interim managing director.

However, a statement by the Minister of Power, Sale Mamman, signed by his Special Media and Communications Advisor, Aaron Artimas, gave no specific reason for Mohammed's removal, but said it was part of the company's reorganization.

However, a few days before its withdrawal, the Association of Senior Officials of the Electricity and Related Companies (SSAEAC) threatened to ground the electricity sector due to continued anti-labor practices at TCN and called for its removal.

They claimed that Mohammad illegally removed SSAEAC chairman Chris Okonkwo from TCN's service when he (Okonkwo) was still many years in service and not 60 or 35 years in service.

The organization said Okonkwo's alleged retirement was fraudulent because no MD had such powers, accusing Mohammed of usurpation of authority.

In the statement announcing the removal of Mohammed, the minister said that Buhari personally approved the looting of the former TCN chief.

“Consequently, TCN's managing director, Usman Gur Mohammed, was removed from office with immediate effect. He is being replaced by Engr Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, as managing director, in capacity to act, ”said the statement.

The minister also confirmed the appointment of four directors who were working at the company.

He listed the directors as Mr. Victor Adewunmi, Executive Director, Broadcast Service Provider, MJ Lawal, Executive Director, Independent Systems Operators, Ahmed Isa-Dutse, Executive Director, Finance and Accounts and Justin Dodo, Executive Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services.

Mohammed was highlighted as seconded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) as General Director and CEO of TCN in 2017.
