The National Democratic Front (NDF) urged the leadership of the National Assembly to begin the process of recognizing Heads of Service and other deserving members of the Armed Forces in the fight against the insurgency.
NDF said it reached that conclusion after extensive consultation with stakeholders in the critical security sector.
According to the group, this singular act would serve as a moral incentive to the heads of service who demonstrated "patriotism, commitment and dedication to the cause of our country".
In a statement signed by the Secretary-General, Dr. AbdulKadir Bolaji, on Thursday, the group welcomed military leaders in formulating sound policies and strategically implementing quality innovations in Armed Forces operations.
He invited Senate President Ahmed Lawan and House of Representatives President Femi Gbajabiamila to lead by example, instituting the process of honoring Heads of Service in the country in recognition of their sustainable efforts to preserve Nigeria's territorial integrity. .
The group, however, cautioned those who were giving forceful comments about military leaders to end their political campaigns, which is against the nation's interest.
The statement says: “The National Democratic Front, a civil solidarity organization, wants to give voice to the invaluable efforts of the country's chiefs of service in the fight against terrorism and other criminal acts in the country.
We follow events closely and states that, in fact, the Heads of Service have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to serving our homeland through the formulation of sound policies and the strategic implementation of quality innovations in the operations of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
It is instructive to say that the various critics of the Heads of Service in Nigeria were mainly supported by ignorance, given the reality of where we came from in the war on terrorism in Nigeria and where we are today.
That our military continue to play day and night to protect Nigeria's territorial integrity is truly commendable and worthy of appreciation from critical stakeholders, which includes the government's long-standing legislative branch, the National Assembly.
Consequently, we were surprised that our national parliamentarians did not consider it appropriate to begin the process of recognizing the Heads of Service and other deserving members of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for their demonstration of patriotism, commitment and dedication to the cause of our country.
Heads of Service in Nigeria have excelled in their leadership roles in ensuring that the various threats posed by the Boko Haram terror group are kept to a minimum.
The National Democratic Front, after extensive consultation with stakeholders in the critical security sector, wishes to affirm that the contributions of Heads of Service over the past five years have seen the numerous gains registered in the theater of operations in northeastern Nigeria.
We also want to declare that those who have had blunt observations about the Heads of Service efforts in security architecture in Nigeria do not undertake these ventures with the purest of intentions, but are motivated by political considerations, which in most cases are contrary to our interests. national interest.
It is desirable that the efforts of Heads of Service in the country are recognized and honored by the National Assembly as a way of encouraging them to continue to give the best of their services to the motherland.
This is especially true because we are all witnesses of how, in taking office, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed credible and highly experienced officers from the various services as Heads of Service and with a corresponding order to address the various security challenges in the country.
Consequently, they really hit the ground and, to the present date, have continued this way, hence the need for recognition of their noble efforts. The National Democratic Front wants to advise members of the innocent public not to be taken into the pockets of lone wolf attacks by terrorists and their payers to draw public attention to defame those we should normally support in the service of the country.
The National Democratic Front firmly maintains that Ahmed Lawan's National Assembly can lead by example, instituting the process of honoring Heads of Service in the country in recognition of their sustainable efforts to preserve Nigeria's territorial integrity.
We consider our opinion that, in other climates in the world, the Army Chief of Staff would receive the country's highest honors for his acts of heroism and the commitment to defend Nigeria through the effective coordination of the command structure in the Theater. Operations in Northeast Nigeria against the terrorist group Boko Haram / ISWAP.
The National Democratic Front wishes to urge the National Assembly of Nigeria to accept the challenge of honoring the Heads of Service in the country for their invaluable contributions to peace and development in Nigeria.
It is our firm belief that this recognition would not only encourage Heads of Service to continue to do their best, but would also serve as a means of encouraging others in leadership positions in Nigeria to put the country's interest first and above the level folks. interest.
The efforts of Heads of Service in the country have indeed been exemplary in all branches and should serve as a model for commitment, dedication and sincerity of heart and purpose in service to the country.
