Odion Ighalo received a $ 400,000 contract a week from Shanghai Shenhua to try to convince him to stay at the club instead of joining Manchester permanently.
The Nigerian striker made the surprising loan to Old Trafford in January, but despite many questioning whether he was good enough, he has been an absolute success, scoring four times and creating an assist in eight games before the season is suspended.
The head of United Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to have been so impressed by the 30-year-old that he has already convinced himself to sign him permanently, and Ighalo is also considering signing a contract with the club he supported as a child.
But, according to Sky Sports Shanghai, he is desperate to keep the prize money and has made a lucrative offer to try to entice the player to reject United.
Ighalo's current contract expires in December 2022, and the new contract offer would extend him for another two years until December 2024.
It remains to be seen what he decides, but there is no doubt that United has a special place in his heart, with Ighalo describing it as a "dream come true" to play for the club.
