Russian Prime Minister tests positive for COVID-19

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).

Mishustin informed President Vladimir Putin on Thursday that he was diagnosed with the new coronavirus and is temporarily leaving recovery.


Mishustin, 54, suggested that First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov act as interim Prime Minister in his absence. Putin, who appointed Mishustin in January, supported the proposal.

"I found that the coronavirus tests that I did returned a positive result," I need to isolate myself and follow the doctors' instructions. This is necessary for the safety of my colleagues. ”Mishustin said.

The national count of confirmed coronavirus cases in Russia surpassed the 100,000 mark on Thursday, after a record daily rise in new infections.


Russia this week overtook China and Iran in the number of confirmed cases resulting from the global pandemic.
