Rangers International's Ifeanyi George and Emmanuel Ogbu died on Sunday in a car accident while traveling to Lagos state.
George and Emmanuel, who were traveling with other team players, died on the spot during the accident.
George died at the scene after the vehicle he was traveling collided with an articulated stationery vehicle along the Onitsha-Agbor-Benin road.
They would have returned to Lagos to take a break since the suspension of the Professional Football League of Nigeria (NPFL).
The League Management Company (LMC) confirmed the development and sent a message of condolences to the management of Rangers International.
"We sympathize with the club at this difficult time and pray for the rest of their souls and wish the injured a speedy recovery," said LMC President Shehu Dikko.
Dikko therefore urged stakeholders to ensure adherence to security measures during the global battle with COVID-19.
He said: "It is instructive that we should limit our movements as much as possible, restrict social contacts and adhere to health protocols established by global, national and state agencies relevant to the containment of COVID-19".
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has also pledged to the club for the death of the two players.
“We are shocked to hear the sad demise of strikers Ifeanyi George and Emmanuel Ogbu from @rangersint ”, tweeted the NFF.
“Both players were involved in a fatal car accident on Sunday. Our prayers and thoughts are with your families and with the Rangers & # 39; Mgt. May their souls rest in peace. "
