Rangers 2-0 Stranraer: Presents ease in the Scottish Cup in the last 16

Jermain Defoe's penalty guaranteed Rangers progress in the last 16

The Rangers began their campaign in the Scottish Cup with a routine victory over Stranraer at Ibrox, to facilitate the fifth round.

The lower Scottish League club held out until Scott Arfield came close to the break.

Jermain Defoe doubled the lead in first place with Rangers, showing seven changes to his victory at the Old Firm derby, making a winning return on winter break.

Steven Gerrard's team is the first club to draw in Sunday's last 16 games.

Stranraer, with former Scottish Premiership players Jamie Hamill and Ryan Stevenson at his side, bravely defended keeping the respectable score but offered virtually nothing in attack.
