O Nigerian police Monday night confirmed the death of a mobile police commander (MOPOL 9) and assistant police commissioner, Atiku Nagodi.
Nagodi was the commander of MOPOL 9, based in Hotoro, in the local government area of Nassarawa, in the state of Kano.
He died on Monday, increasing the number of very important people (VIPs) who have died in the state in recent times.
Like many others who died before, there was speculation that he could have been killed by COVID-19 currently devastating Kano, many Nigerian states and the world at large.
However, Kano's police public relations officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed Nagodi's death to journalists, denied that he had died from COVID-19.
According to Haruna, the assistant police commissioner died after a prolonged illness and not as a result of the dreaded new Coronavirus disease.
