The January transfer window bring around rumours of both players coming into and leaving a club.
It isn’t any different at Arsenal, with many players linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium. There is however some that have been linked with a move away, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The striker has scored an impressive 57 goals in 91 Arsenal appearances since his move from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.
Aubameyang was also appointed as the new Arsenal captain to replace Granit Xhaka, after the Swiss midfielder’s spat with supporters during the Crystal Palace game in October.
But with the Gunners struggling to keep pace in the race for a Champions League spot and Aubameyang yet to commit his future to the club, the forward has been linked with a move to Spain as both Real Madrid and Barcelona look to bolster their attacking options.
So what is the latest on his future?
Aubameyang on Arteta
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says that Arsenal are already feeling the benefit of Mikel Arteta’s shake-up at the Emirates Stadium.
Former Manchester City assistant Arteta was appointed head coach nine days ago and took charge of his first game on Boxing Day. Though the result was a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth there were signs of improvement in Arsenal’s performance.
Those have also been reflected on the training ground with Arsenal players impressed with the shake-up at London Colney.
“We need to make sure, all of us, players and fans, that he has a successful home debut,” Aubameyang wrote in his programme notes. “He’s only been in charge for a few days but we’ve seen a bit difference already.
“We needed someone who would come in and shake the whole squad up. Someone with new ideas, with a new message and someone who would take us in a different direction. Mikel has brought all of that.
“We needed a fresh new start and something different and we can feel it already.
“He is very rigorous and demanding on the training pitch. It’s all about details with him so he talks a lot, repositions us, explains a lot of little things.”
Arsenal urged to sell Aubameyang
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says Arsenal should sell Aubameyang.
“You look at up front and the age of Aubameyang, he’s got a year to go,” Carragher said on the Sky Sports Christmas Transfer show.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if they cashed in on Aubameyang if somebody offered them big money
That’s even though he’s one of the top strikers in the Premier League.
“They do still have Lacazette there also but it’s a big job at Arsenal.”
Agent delivers update
According to journalist Ian McGarry , Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s representatives have made it very clear to Arsenal that their client wants to leave the club in January.
There is reportedly definite interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona, while Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud would be ‘open’ to rejoining Arsenal.
The Frenchman’s future at Stamford Bridge looks bleak, with Frank Lampard preferring Tammy Abraham as his lone striker.
Barcelona to ‘open negotiations’
According to Le10sport, Barcelona are going to ‘open negotiations’ with Arsenal in the next few days in regards to a January move for Aubameyang.
The report states that the Catalan club have identified the Gunners’ man as their ‘top priority’ as a striker target, with the search accelerated due to the injury to Luis Suarez.
It is said that Aubameyang’s efficiency in front of goal and his versatility are what are attracting Barcelona to make their move.
