The National Labor Committee of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed a seven-member executive committee for the party chapter in Ekiti State.
The committee was formed after the expiration of the outgoing State Labor Committee under the Presidency of Barr. Gboyega Oguntuase.
The members of the committee chaired by former Senate deputy head Whip, Senator Hosea Agboola are Yinka Akerele, Hon. Samuel Omotosho, Hon. Tunji Odeyemi and Ariyo Afolabi.
Others include: Hon. Adeyemi Abiodun Domingo and Hon. Diran Odeyemi, who is to serve as secretary.
In letters dated May 8, 2020 and sent to members of the Caretakers Committee by the party's National Organizing Secretary, Colonel Austin Akobundu (rtd), the party stated that the Committee will oversee PDP affairs in the state from May 10 , 2020 until the election of a new executive, for a period not exceeding 90 days.
The party's decision was based on its inability to conduct the state congress scheduled for March 24 due to the controversy surrounding the ward congress and the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemics, main guidelines for staying at home and social distancing implemented by the government for contain the spread of the virus.
While members of the executive committee in some states were reconstituted by interim committees, The Nation concluded that the SWC led by Oguntuase was sacked due to its loyalty to Senator Biodun Olujimi.
However, Oguntuase said the outgoing SWC was neither dissolved nor dismissed, but the party has constituted a committee of caretakers not to create a vacuum in the party's leadership position in Ekiti since the executive's term has expired.
“We were not dissolved or fired. Our term of office expires on May 10 and there should be no room for a vacuum. It was made for state and local government structures.

"The caretaker will cease to exist as soon as a validly recognized congress is held at these levels."
Regarding the crisis that characterized the result of the Congress of the party wing that divided the PDP of Ekiti into the factions of Ayodele Fayose and Olujimi, Oguntuase said that the controversial issue will be resolved by the court.
He insisted that the oath taken by some lawyers in the wing loyal to Fayose by a lawyer, Niyi Idowu, was antithetical to the provisions of the party's constitution.
“All the actions taken by the notary were null and void. Only the President of the State can swear on a ward executive. If the president of the state refuses to perform such a function, only the NWC will be vested with such powers.
“Those who brought in a lawyer and a non-PDP member to take the oath acted ultra vires of their powers. They also acted subjectively, because the matter is already in court, ”he said.
Oguntuase said that the party under him had written to the lawyer the need to withdraw his decision and apologize, without which he would be reported to the Disciplinary Committee of Lawyers for punitive actions.
“They only embarked on acts that embarrassed the PDP. How can we allow a non-member to take actions that could destroy our party?
“They arrived even when there was a total blockade in Ekiti. They need to explain how they entered Ekiti, despite the border closure, and how they gathered more than 600 people to take an oath without violating the order of social detachment.
"We are confident that the court will review the two parallel wing congresses and adopt what was conducted in substantial accordance with the constitution and provisions of the party's electoral law," said Oguntuase.
