Great Georgetown basketball coach and ex-New York Knicks Patrick Ewing announced Friday that it tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

Ewing shared the news in a statement released by the university.

“I want to share that I tested positive for COVID-19. This virus is serious and should not be taken lightly ” Ewing I wrote. “I want to encourage everyone to be safe and take care of themselves and their loved ones. Now, more than ever, I want to thank healthcare professionals and everyone on the front lines. I'll be fine and we'll all get over it. "

Ewing is being treated at a local hospital.

The university said Ewing is the only member of the men's basketball program that has tested positive for COVID-19.

While Ewing is the most important sports figure in Washington to reveal his positive test, he is not the only one. Dexter Manley, a former Redskins, tested positive for the virus on May 2.
