OnePlus recently launched its OnePlus 8 series in India and now the company's CEO has suggested that OnePlus could launch affordable smartphones in India soon.
Talking about the launch of smartphones with limited budget in India, in a interview with Fast Company, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said: “We can consider this as a more affordable product offering, but all products that still remain within the OnePlus standard. . . and that way, more people will have access to OnePlus products. "
In the interview, he revealed that OnePlus will announce a new strategy in India shortly after which it will introduce "lower price" devices in the country and markets such as Europe and North America later this year.
He further explains that the fact that OnePlus launches affordable phones does not mean that it will abandon the main smartphones; the company just wants to expand its product portfolio. He adds: "Formerly known for selling cool phones at prices that are hard to believe, OnePlus wants to re-manufacture more affordable phones while expanding into new product categories."
Although he did not reveal the name of any affordable smartphone, it is speculated that the company may launch its alleged affordable smartphone – OnePlus Z – coming soon.
OnePlus CEO also revealed that the company is looking to build its own ecosystem. Last year, OnePlus entered the smart TV segment by launching its first smart TV in the country at a starting price of Rs 69,900.
