The Nigerian armed forces claim that Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD) troops continue to annihilate Boko Haram / Islamic States of the West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists in the northeast.
Major-General. John Enenche, Coordinator, Defense Media Operations, Defense Headquarters, released this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
Enenche said troops from Battalion 212 of Sector 1 of the OPLD successfully repelled the terrorist attack, killed several insurgents and recovered weapons and ammunition in Gajigana, in the local government area of Nganzai on Sunday.
He explained that the troops acted in a credible intelligence report on the convergence and advance of the terrorists to attack their location in Gajigana, from the village of Goni Usmanti, in the area of the local government.
According to him, in response to the attack on ground troops, the Air Task Force shuffled its attack aircraft and helicopters to provide close air support and involved terrorists in exchange for gunfire.
“A further exploration by 7 Division Garrison found a destroyed gun truck and two abandoned gun trucks in the village of Mitturu.
“The recovered items include two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, 36 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, two 36 hand grenades and an LG3 bomb.
“The Military High Command congratulates the troops for their gallantry and professionalism.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria will remain resolute and will continue to sustain the offensive against the enemies of our great nation.
"We will not give in until peace and normality are restored not only in the northeast, but also in all other problematic regions of our beloved country," he said.
