The Nigerian government has suspended the ongoing repair work at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
This was announced on Tuesday by the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika.
Sirika was at the airport on Tuesday for an inspection visit to the project.
He noted that more than 90% of the project had been completed and should have been delivered before Easter.
The minister, however, said: “Considering that construction workers dropped tools due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal Government officially announces the suspension of purchases.
"The work would be completed in 6 to 7 days, but the workers stopped being with their families in view of the social distance".
He asked the people of the Southeast to try to understand, ensuring that the matter was resolved in three weeks.
