NCDC reopens Kano COVID-19 testing lab, to launch second one Wednesday

The Nigeria Disease Control Center (NCDC) reopened its testing center on Tuesday Kano.

NCDC Director-General Dr. Chikwe Ihekwazu, who announced the reopening of the center on his Twitter, said testing for COVID-19 had resumed at the facility.

The center suspended the operation last Wednesday after exhausting its test kits and the laboratory was contaminated.

Kano has been shaken by mysterious mass deaths in the past few days.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Monday addressed a total two-week blockade of the state in an attempt to resolve the crisis.

Ihekweazu said: “Thanks to the incredible efforts of a joint team from @NCDCgov, @KNSMOH @aminukanoth and our partners. O #COVID-19 AKTH's lab, Kano, is back and testing has resumed. A second laboratory at Bayero Kano University will be activated tomorrow. We are not where we want to be yet, but we will continue to work.
