The Netherlands coach and legendary Barcelona defender Ronald Koeman underwent a heart procedure on Sunday at an Amsterdam hospital after experiencing chest pain.
Dutch football association KNVB confirmed that Koeman underwent a "successful cardiac catheterization" and will be released from the hospital on Monday.
"Ronald Koeman was hospitalized on Sunday night after chest complaints," said the KNVB in a statement.
“The 57-year-old coach of the Dutch national team has undergone a successful cardiac catheterization and will return home tomorrow.
"We wish Ronald a lot of strength and improvement."
A KNVB tweet added: “This is a shock. Fortunately, things are looking up again. Much strength and improvement, coach. "
Dutch national broadcaster NOS quoted Koeman business manager Rob Jansen as saying that Koeman was hospitalized after experiencing chest pain after a bike ride.
Koeman's administration said the coach will rest in the coming days.
Koeman has been the Dutch coach for just over two years and helped the country qualify for Euro 2020, which was postponed until next year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The former international defender, who as a player won the European Cup with PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona, managed the Premier League with Everton and Southampton before taking charge of the Netherlands.
