Former England and Arsenal defender Kenny Sansom is "sick" in the hospital.
The 61-year-old man has no coronavirus, according to a tweet from his Twitter account.
Sansom, who won 86 games for England and played 394 games for Arsenal, had well-publicized problems with alcoholism and gambling.
In 2015, he revealed that he had thought of committing suicide after being homeless because of his problems.
A tweet said: "He is being well looked after and does not have Covid-19. Kenny's family and close friends kindly ask the media to respect his privacy and his privacy, in addition to the health professionals who treat Kenny."
Sansom, who played at the 1982 and 1986 World Cups, debuted at the age of 16 at Crystal Palace in 1975, before playing for Arsenal, Newcastle, QPR and Coventry.
