Babangida added that there were no victims of the disturbances, contained with the assistance of police, soldiers and other security officers.
The Nigeria News Agency (NAN) reports that, during disturbances at the correctional center, shots were heard, a situation that scared residents of the facility to run out of their homes.
According to the controller, the initial problem was solved and urged the inmates to remain calm.
When asked whether the crisis was a result of fear of the COVID-19 virus, Babangida said there were no cases of the virus at the facility.
"We have our health care professionals here and they are working tirelessly to deal with this, and while I speak to you, we don't have this case here."
NAN reports that there was a large presence of security personnel throughout the Correctional Center located on Independence Way, Kaduna.
