The Kano state government extended the state-imposed blockade by one week to help stem the spread of the new pandemic COVID-19 further.
State information commissioner Malam Muhammad Garba, who made the announcement, said the decision was made after consultations with the federal government and key health sector stakeholders.
He said the measure aims to further reduce indiscriminate contacts from person to person, which is considered one of the main ways of spreading the disease.
The commissioner, while recognizing the consequences of the measure for the public, called for patience and support as the battle against the pandemic continues.
He also asked people to continue to observe strict personal hygiene through regular hand washing, wearing face masks and social distance.
