The Citizens' Quest for Truth initiative, a non-governmental organization that advocates for correct leadership and development in the Niger Delta region, has raised the alarm about the alleged conspiracy to end the forensic audit of the Delta Development Commission Niger (NDDC) to cover the involvement of some politicians in the sleeze that plagued the Commission.
He also claimed that those behind the plot may be planning to incite President Muhammadu Buhari to undo the NDDC.
The group insisted that the National Assembly's recent inquiry into the $ 40 billion allegedly inappropriate by the Interim Management Committee is merely diverse, adding that the move is suspect, especially now that the Commission's Forensic Audit has begun.
In a statement by its president and founder, Oby Ndukwe, the group argued that "those requesting the records cannot claim innocence because of the sleaze that is taking place in the Commission".
He said: “The truth is that there are sinister plans to end the audit and possibly make the President give up on the decision.
He further claimed that those behind the plot to disrupt the forensic audit are also planning to tarnish the image of Niger Delta Affairs Minister Godswill Akpabio, for insisting on auditing the NDDC accounts since it was created 19 years ago.
“From my discoveries, Akpabio is like a man marked on the playing field. He left the PDP to APC and that, obviously, earned him more enemies in his old party. He was the minority leader in the Senate and a key member of the PDP Caucus.
“And who is controlling the NDDC committees in the Senate? PDP is clear. Therefore, there is a correlation between the allegations and frustrations he is facing, in an attempt to reverse the fortunes of the region, especially in the NDDC.
“Those who clung to the NDDC like a dairy cow are not letting go, especially when it is obvious that the Forensic Audit, as ordered by the President, will expose them.
“The easiest way to discredit a political leader who is driven by performance is to paint him with the tar of fraud and corruption.
“The Interim Management Committee's N40bn survey is merely diverse. Should we ask why now the forensic auditors started the job? What are they afraid of?
“The president ordered the audit to cover a period of 19 years since the commission began. So why is NASS limiting theirs to just 6 months of BMI? The statement said in part.
He added: "NDDC Senate Committee chairman Peter Nwaoboshi was there and don't forget that for the next 19 years.
period, his party, the PDP oversaw the NDDC for 15 years.
“The president of the Chamber Committee at the NDDC is not from the oil producing part of the State of Ondo, but he has a 17 km road divided into 11 in N950m each, totaling N10. 4 billion.
“So how can they focus on a topic they are involved in. The focus on the 6 months of the IMC is just a strategy for the BMI to be fired, as NASS has never supported the BMI since the time Joi Nunieh's team was appointed. It's all about politics ".
