Government asks NASS to suspend infectious disease bill

As the controversy continues to track the treatment of the 2020 Infectious Disease Control Bill by the National Assembly, the governors of the country's 36 states have asked the Legislature from now on all activities related to the Bill.


Governors, at the 8th COVID-19 conference call from the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF), expressed discomfort at not having been consulted on the Bill, despite being at the forefront of efforts to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

At the NGF meeting on Wednesday, “Governors expressed concern about the lack of consultation with state governments, which are at the forefront of the epidemic.

* The forum decided that the project should be resigned until an appropriate consultative process was carried out, including a public hearing to gather opinions and concerns from the public, "said NGF spokesman Abdulrazague Bello-Barkindo in a statement.
