FAAN launches new guidelines as domestic travel begins on July 8

The Nigeria Federal Airport Authority (FAAN) released new procedural guidelines for air travelers and other airport users before the domestic flight commenced on July 8, 2020.

Your spokesperson and General Manager for Public Affairs; Ms. Henrietta Yakubu, who released this, said the new guidelines were part of the Standard Operating Procedure (POP), which aims to protect all stakeholders and prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

According to Yakubu, who described the guidelines as "Nova Normal", departing passengers must arrive at the airport properly equipped with a face mask.

She said the new regime also stipulates that passengers must guarantee a minimum of one point and five meters of physical distance, just as Aviation Medical / Port Health personnel are instructed to track each passenger and ensure the use of a face mask.

Yakubu said other measures stipulate that anyone traveling with pets must obtain the necessary authorization from Nigeria's Agricultural Quarantine Services.

Passengers, she insisted, must disinfect all suitcases before entering the departure halls.

She said: “Passengers are required to wash their hands as quickly as possible with the provision of hand sanitizer before entry, in waiting rooms / waiting rooms and at pre-boarding gates.

All shoes according to FAAN would be disinfected / sanitized by carpets placed at all entrances to the terminal building.

Yakubu said that arriving passengers must observe a physical distance when disembarking from the planes and the same as they board the co-buses.

She said hand sanitizers would be provided on buses.

However, she warned that physical distance protocols must be observed in the baggage claim area, where hand sanitizer will also be provided.

Yakubu also said that disinfected trolleys would be made available to passengers, suggesting that all COVID-19 protocols should be observed during customs verification.

Yakubu said: “Passengers left the corridors and went straight to the parking lot to pick up. If you MUST speak to someone nearby, speak to a properly identified Aviation Security Officer (AVSEC).

“The physical distance would be maintained while waiting for screening by the personnel of the port health services, among others.

“In addition to the guidelines above, passengers must observe the SOCIAL DISTANCE and make use of the floor markings in the security screening area. They must also comply with all other safety guidelines established by employees of the Aviation Security department (AVSEC). "

She urged passengers and other interested parties to respect and observe these necessary protocols, established for their protection.
