Arsenal supporters took to social media after Bruno Guimaraes posted a tweet.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Athletico Paranaense midfielder, with technical director Edu reportedly set to hold talks with the Brazilian midfielder’s agents.
The north London side are yet to submit a formal offer for the player, but the reports claim Athletico Paranaense expect to receive a fee of around £21-£25.5 million for the transfer.
Athletico president Mario Celso Petraglia previously admitted that Arsenal are one of the interested parties, but a deal could be on hold until the summer.
Speaking to Portuguese publication O Jogo last week, he said: “Yes it’s true. Yesterday came the official offer from Benfica to sign Bruno Guimaraes.
“‘Let’s study Benfica’s offer. On Monday we will meet the club board to assess this situation.
“Arsenal are interested, but will only make an offer towards the end of the season.”
The excitement from Arsenal supporters about a potential move for Guimaraes intensified, after the midfielder took to social media on Friday evening.
The 22-year-old wrote: ‘Ta chegando a hora,’ which translates to: ‘The time is coming’, along with three Brazilian flag emojis.
Arsenal fans responded with messages like: ‘Obviously 3 Brazilian flags representing Luiz, Martinelli and himself’, and ‘Translated by me, the time is coming to play for Arsenal.’
It is though the message relates to the midfielder’s call-up to the Brazil Under-23 squad, which will take part in a pre-Olympic tournament in Colombia.
The competition will be played between January 18 and February 9 and will decide South America’s two representatives at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in the summer.
Brazil are in Group B along with Paraguay, Bolivia, Uruguay and Peru.
