The Presidents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 18 areas of the local government of Edo State kicked against the vacillation granted Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu by the party's National Labor Committee on May 21, 2020.
According to the party's LG presidents, Ize-Iyamu has yet to fulfill the conditions for the resignation to challenge the government's election on the party's platform.
Ize-Iyamu, who defected from the Democratic Peoples Party (PDP) to the APC at the end of last year, was chosen as a consensus candidate for the state's pro-Adams Oshiomhole faction.
According to the presidents, the decision to present Ize-Iyamu, candidate for governor of the PDP in 2016 as a consensus candidate for the Edo APC, would not remain, claiming that he was not a party member (APC).
Led by their president, Ben Oghomu, during a press conference on Thursday in Benin, LG party leaders described Ize-Iyamu's May 26 consensus candidacy in Abuja as null, void and void.
They also pledged to ensure that Governor Godwin Obaseki emerged victorious during the APC primary election on June 22, using the indirect mode, adding that he would also win government research on September 19, continuing in office after December 12. November.
“We wish to state to avoid doubts that the alleged agreement to return Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as an APC consensus candidate is unfounded.
“Pastor Ize-Iyamu is not a member of our party. He led his followers out of APC in 2014 and even contested the government on the PDP platform in 2016, which he lost.
”The alleged resignation granted to Pastor Ize-Iyamu by the APC's National Labor Committee (NWC) is ultra vires, null and void, as Article 31 of the party's constitution confers power on the party's National Executive Committee (NEC).
"In addition, the conditions for waiver prescribed by the constitution of the party have not been met.
"The truth is that Pastor Ize-Iyamu recently joined the Popular Movement of Edo (EPM), which is a group organized by comrade Adams Oshiomhole destabilize APC in the state of Edo.
"The party has a constitution and the constitution sets out provisions on how things are done, including registering new members."
