Market: Derby win
Odds: 2/1 @ Bet 365
With a play-off point at the top of his schedule, a flying Derby will make the trip to a Deepdale on Wednesday night.
Starting with the hosts, displaying another toroid display in what was a 3-1 loss at home against Cardiff at the weekend, Preston continued to show a series of problems on both sides of the break. Despite shocking many in the league after what was an excellent debut in the middle of the campaign, Alex Neil's men lost four of the last five games and won just one point out of 15 possible. Free fall in the play-offs and supporting what has been by far the most worrying spell of the season so far, the whites have also raised some recent issues at Deepdale. Including that fight against Cardiff on Saturday, the former Norwich coach saw his team lose three of their last four home matches, a race that also saw them defeated by yet another 3-1 defeat at the hands of QPR.
As for visitors, while Preston may be experiencing a real crisis, Derby finds the climate in his camp during high season. Returning to the play-off scene and really finding their feet under former PSV boss Phillip Cocu, the Rams have won their last four Championship clashes and have a growing reputation for their performances in the final third. Marking his return from the forced break with the dramatic 3-2 win over Millwall, Derby won consecutive wins outside Pride Park and should also be boosted by the most recent midweek encounter against hosts. Having won a well-deserved 1-0 win when they faced Preston in November, there is no doubt that Derby is looking to extend its recent purple patch this week.
