State Youth Commissioner Signor Omang Idiege, who confirmed the incident to journalists, said the trucks were intercepted on Wednesday night in the border town of Garkem in Bekwara, in the state's local government area by a team composed of members of Peace Corp, civilian border watchers. The commissioner said most of the passengers were almajiris who did not comply with the COVID-19 protocols.

Idiege said: "After a thorough check of the five trucks and we found that most passengers, in addition to goods, were almajiris, who did not comply with the COVID-19 protocols, we forced them to return to the base."
