Andy Dalton is coming home.

Launched by Cincinnati Bengals On Thursday, Dalton agreed to a one-year contract with Dallas Cowboys, the team announced on Saturday. The quarterback deal has a base value of $ 3 million and can be worth up to $ 7 million, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Before being selected by Bengals in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft, Dalton played at TCU in Fort Worth, Texas. He lives in Dallas, which means he won't have to move his family during an off-season that was uncertain due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Many assumed that Dalton, 32, would be in a position to find a place with a less safe departure than Dak Prescott, such as the Jacksonville Jaguars or New England Patriots, but he chose to stay close to home.

Cincinnati hired the LSU quarterback Joe Burrow with the first general choice last week, making Dalton disposable. Dalton was expected to win $ 17.7 million in the final season of a six-year and $ 96 million contract. In nine seasons at Bengals, Dalton had a 70-61-2 record and helped them post-season in each of the first five seasons, but failed to win the playoff. He holds the franchise record for touchdown passes with 204 and is second in passing yards (31,594), but was signed after a 0-8 start in the 2019 season.

He returned to the starting point in the last five games and recorded Cincinnati's two wins. According to the ESPN Stats & Information survey, Dalton's total 40.1 CBR in 2019 came in 27th out of 30 qualified quarterbacks.

Dalton's addition does not affect the Cowboys' feelings about Prescott, who received the exclusive franchise label in March at a cost of $ 31.4 million. The Cowboys wanted to sign Prescott for a multi-year contract since the last off-season, but were unable to reach an agreement that would make him one of the highest-paid, if not the highest-paid NFL quarterbacks. .

Prescott, 26, has not lost a game in his career, but the Cowboys saw the opportunity to add Dalton as too good to pass up. Cooper Rush served as a reserve for Prescott for the past three seasons, but he played only three passes. As a restricted free agent, Rush is expected to earn $ 2.1 million in 2020.

Cowboys also have defenders Clayton Thorson, who spent the last season on the training team, and Ben DiNucci on the list. The Cowboys took DiNucci in the seventh round of last week's draft.

Dalton is three times a Pro Bowler, and Prescott has arrived twice in the four seasons. The only other NFL team with several quarterbacks who have made several Pro Bowls is the Falcons; beginner Matt Ryan made four Pro Bowls and Matt Schaub made two. Santos, Corvos and Bears also have several defenders who have managed at least once.
