COVID-19: Patient absconds from Kebbi hospital, dies at home

O Kebbi State The government on Saturday announced the death of a COVID-19 patient who reportedly fled the hospital after his samples were taken for the COVID-19 test.

State Health Commissioner Alhaji Jaafaru Mohammed, who disclosed this in a statement issued by the Special Media Advisor to the governor, Yahaya Sarki, said the deceased, a 60-year-old man, was diabetic and hypertensive.


He said the deceased was the second case of COVID-19 in the state.

The commissioner said: “The second case of COVID-19 in the state was a patient at the Federal Medical Center, Birnin Kebbi. He was a 60-year-old man, a well-known diabetic and hypertensive patient.

“He was brought to the center by Usman Danfodiyo University Hospital in Sokoto, by his relatives.


“After analyzing the case by a consultant, COVID-19 was suspicious and our rapid response team took action.

"The samples of the deceased were taken for testing on April 25, while he fled before he could be taken to the isolation center.

"O corpse he was taken to the UDUTH morgue, contrary to the previous claim that he was taken to Benue State for burial. "
