Court demands wooden warrant for N624,000 fraud in Osun

A Mudashir Asalu was arrested on Tuesday in Moore, Ile-Ife, in police custody by an Osun State Magistrates' Court sitting in Ile-Ife for alleged N624,000 fraud.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that Mudashir Asalu sometimes committed the crime in 2017 in Ondo Road, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N624,000 from an Adeniyi Akeem with the promise that he would provide him with logs within a week, but has not been able to redeem the promise to date.

According to him, the defendant fraudulently converted the sum of N624,000, owned by an Adeniyi Akeem, for his own use.

Osanyintuyi noted that the crime violated sections 383, 390 (9) and 419 of the Penal Code, Osun Laws, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to charges of two counts of fraud and illegal conversion brought against him.

The defense lawyer, Niyi Kosile, asked for the defendant's bail on a liberal basis, with the promise that his client would not pay the bail, but would provide reliable guarantees.

Judge Joseph Owolawi did not grant the defendant bail, but ordered his preventive detention at Division A police station, Moore, Ile-Ife, by postponing the case until May 21, for mention.
