That decision ends a nearly two-year investigation into whether McCabe, in his role as a senior FBI official, lied to investigators about conversations he had with reporters. McCabe had long insisted that if he did, it was purely accidental and noted that, in his role, he was authorized to speak to the media.
Trump spent much of the investigation evicting McCabe, a man he insisted was, along with former FBI director James Comey, at the center of the "Deep State" conspiracy against him.
"Andrew McCabe FIRE, a great day for the hard-working FBI men and women – A great day for democracy. The most holy James Comey was his boss and made McCabe look like a chorus. He knew all about the lies and corruption that happen in the country. the highest levels of the FBI! "
"So they now condemn Roger Stone for lying and want to arrest him for many years. Well, and Crooked Hillary, Comey, Strzok, Page, McCabe, Brennan, Clapper, Shifty Schiff, Ohr & Nellie, Steele and everyone else?" the others, including Mueller himself? Didn't they lie? A double standard like never before seen in the history of our country? "
Except, not so much. Because no one on the Trump list has been criminally charged. none.
Biiiiig difference, right? (And that's even before we get to the number of Republican senators who acknowledged that Trump had been involved in a fight with Ukraine, but who voted not to remove him from office because they didn't think it was an unthinkable offense.)
None of these facts – up to and including the Justice Department's refusal to sue McCabe – will convince Trump or his supporters that they were and are wrong. But make no mistake: the "Deep State" deck of cards that Trump built to distract his own problems is collapsing, with McCabe's news on Friday the last structural blow to the ruined building.
