Competition: Second League
Market: Cheltenham Town tied without bet
Odds: 1/1 @ Bet 365
With the League Two play-off semifinals underway on Thursday night, a Cheltenham, who was already flying high, will travel to an empty mid-week PTS Academy Stadium.
Starting with the hosts, while Northampton may have managed to sneak into the final play-off after the League Two campaign was halted, Keith Curle's team found themselves in the middle of a long fight. Last seen in March, when they made another torrid display and slammed a 2-1 home defeat against Mansfield, the East Midlands team managed just six points out of the 21 possible before the break. Also out of the FA Cup after scoring a quartet of goals against Northampton's Derby, he also has a reputation for his continuing problems at home. Including the shock defeat to Mansfield before the break, the Shoemakers have lost three of their last four appearances at PTS Academy Stadium and will be able to do another tricky test on Thursday night.
As for the visitors, although Northampton may have entered the forced interval in the middle of a real fight, the climate at Cheltenham camp was really high. Last seen in March, when he stood out from fellow Port Vale playoff hunters, Michael Duff's men were in an unbeatable six game in League Two, winning 16 points in that brilliant purple patch. Continuing to showcase their strengths on the road and sending out a single strike in more than 400 minutes of action before the season breaks, Thursday's guests should also be encouraged by their most recent meetings against Shoemakers. With a 2-1 victory over Northampton, when the two teams met before the break and now winning three of their last four midweek meetings against the hosts, Cheltenham will make the trip to the East Midlands full of confidence.
