The Chief of Staff of the Air Force (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, praised the personnel of the 271 Detachment of the Air Force of Nigeria (271 Det NAF) Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, for the recent successes recorded against armed bandits and other criminal elements within its Area of Responsibility (AOR), including the neutralization of several armed bandits in Pole Waya along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road the night before.
CAS, however, charged them not to give in to their efforts, but to sustain the momentum of operations, in order to restore peace in the affected areas, as the inhabitants carry out their normal business without fear.
“I am happy to note that this unit neutralized some bandits yesterday while fulfilling its constitutionally designated task. We must continue to fight until our beloved citizens can carry out their daily activities and live freely.
"It is our obligation to play our roles professionally to protect our beloved country, both from terrorism and from armed banditry," said CAS.
Air Marshal Abubakar gave praise and collection today, July 8, 2020, during an operational visit to Birnin Gwari, where he also ordered the newly built internal road network, as well as a 20 x one transit accommodation block room for aviators, which is expected to pave the way for the mobilization of additional personnel to reinforce the Unit's workforce.
Speaking further, Air Marshal Abubakar noted that the current NAF leadership not only consistently sought to develop strategies that would allow the Service to adequately design airpower to deal effectively and efficiently with prevailing security threats, but also granted the greatest priority to the well-being of staff.
He said this recognized the central role that the well-being of the human component of any security architecture plays in ensuring operational efficiency. CAS noted that the commissioning ceremony symbolized yet another demonstration of its commitment to increasing human capacity for efficient performance.
Noting that NAF air offensives against bandits and other criminals in ongoing internal security operations in the states of Niger, Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto had contributed greatly to the achievements of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Air Marshal Abubakar returned to emphasize that there was no time to give in, but to intensify operations to ensure the total defeat of the bandits.
He said that 271 NAF Det Birnin Gwari, working together with the Brother Services and other security agencies, would continue to play a crucial role in this regard to address the dynamic security challenges in its AOR.
Therefore, CAS commended the AOC SOC, the Special Operations Officer (AOC SOC), Deputy Air Marshal (AVM) Charles Ohwo, Commander 271 NAF Det, Wing Commander Steven Sekegor, as well as officers and men of the Detachment by theirs, urging them to justify the resources spent by the government, working around the clock to ensure the security of Nigeria and Nigerians.
He also praised the NAF Works Directorate for the effective execution of virtually all infrastructure projects in the detachment, including the new residential accommodations and road network, through direct labor; noting that another 30 Special Forces soldiers had already been deployed to the Unit and that they would soon report to further increase detachment operations.
CAS also reiterated the Service's commitment to ensure that accommodation problems are eradicated. However, he urged beneficiaries to use the new facilities with a high sense of responsibility, while trying to maintain the highest level of professionalism and organization in their daily conduct.
In expressing his gratitude to the President, Chief Commander of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, for his unending support to the Service in fulfilling its statutory mandates, Air Marshal Abubakar took the opportunity to assure all NAF Nigerians an unshakable commitment to ensure an Nigeria more secure and protected.
Speaking earlier, AOC SOC thanked CAS for its tireless efforts to ensure the provision of living and working environments conducive to NAF personnel. He said it had greatly improved staff performance, morale and service delivery. He assured CAS the dedication and unwavering commitment of all officers, airmen and flight attendants of the Units under the SOC to deal decisively with all criminal elements in the Command's AOR.
Before leaving Birnin Gwari, CAS, who was accompanied on the visit by the Chief of Training and Operations, AVM James Gwani, and by the Chief of Logistics, AVM Mohammed Yakubu, the AOC Training Command of AOC, AVM Musa Mukhtar, in addition to other senior officers at NAF headquarters held a brief closed-door meeting with Commander 271 NAF Det, as well as air component commanders from GAMA AIKI and THUNDER STRIKE operations.
The dignitaries for the commissioning ceremony included the Representative of the President of the Local Government Area of Birnin Gwari, as well as the heads of the paramilitary and security agencies in Birnin Gwari.
