The Bundesliga will return on May 16 amid the coronavirus crisis and the German Football Federation (DFL) hopes to conclude the season by June 30.
GermanyWednesday government gave the green light for the Bundesliga to return and left the decision of the return date to the DFL. At an Ordinary Assembly on Thursday, the 36 clubs in the two highest echelons agreed on the longest possible date, May 15, to conclude the season by June 30.
The Bundesliga was suspended on the eve of matchday 26 on March 13 and DFL agreed to continue with the standard schedule. All games will be held behind closed doors amid a ban on mass meetings in Germany until August 31.
Leaders Bayern Munchen will be outside Union Berlin and the Klassiker between Dortmund and Bayern should be played on 26 or 27 May. The champions of Germany are competing for the eighth consecutive title and have a four point advantage over Borussia Dortmund.
Schalke, Wolfsburg, Freiburg, Hoffenheim and Cologne are competing for a maximum of two places in the Europa League, while at the bottom Paderborn and Werder Bremen We need to make a difference of six and four points, respectively, to reach the place of the relegation playoff, which is carried out by Fortuna Dusseldorf.
