President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed the renowned diplomat and former foreign minister, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, as his new chief of staff.
The Federation's government secretary, Mr. Boss Mustapha, announced the appointment before the Federal Executive Council meeting begins on Wednesday.
Professor Gambari's appointment comes after the death of the president's former chief of staff, Abba Kyari, who died of complications from coronavirus (COVID-19) on April 17, 2020.
Professor Gambari served as Minister of Foreign Affairs between 1984 and 1985.
He has held various leadership positions at national and international levels and has built extensive contacts with governments, as well as public and private institutions, especially in Africa.
The 75-year-old diplomat was also chairman of the United Nations Special Committee against Apartheid (1990-1994).
Subsequently, he served as undersecretary general and head of the United Nations political affairs department between 2005 and 2007.
