Apple unleashed its AirPods Pro last month. The redesigned earbuds have a short stem to summon Siri with the wake phrase “Hey Siri” and make voice calls, a stubbier wireless charging case, and interchangeable tips for a better seal to make the active noise-cancellation really kick-in.
In the Express.co.uk AirPods Pro review, we said that “They sound sublime, are ultra-comfortable to wear and that noise cancellation means you are left to enjoy your music without hearing anything else around you. Apple has even made sure everyone gets the best experience with the Ear Fit Test showing if you have opted for the correct silicone tip.”
If you’ve treated yourself to the new wireless earbuds, there is one setting that you absolutely need to switch on to get the full benefit of using the latest model.
Head to the Settings app on the iPhone that’s paired with your AirPods Pro, then scroll down the list to Accessibility. Next, scroll down to AirPods. You should then tap on the toggle marked Noise Cancellation with One AirPod. Bafflingly, Apple doesn’t turn on this option by default – so if you’d like to listen to music with one earbud, you’d usually have to do so without the defining feature of the new AirPods. Toggling this switch enables you to always get noise-cancellation, regardless of how many earbuds you’re using.
That means you’ll also be able to benefit from the nifty technology that cuts out background noise when using your new AirPods Pro to make a call with one ‘bud.
Apple says its AirPods Pro earbuds are rated for five hours of battery life without noise-cancellation and four and a half hours with noise-cancellation switched on. So you’re not really making that much of a sacrifice battery-wise for the added benefit of cutting all the annoying sounds around you.
The carry case can add an extra 24-hours of juice to the earbuds when you store them away.
If you’re not already the proud owner of AirPods Pro… why did you decide to read an article about a feature buried in the settings menu of the earbuds?
And also, AirPods Pro are available to buy right now in your local Apple Store, or online. The Bluetooth-powered earbuds cost £249.
