The Bureau of the Board of Governors of the African Development Bank (AfDB), made up of finance ministers from all 81 shareholder countries, confirmed the conclusions of the Council's Ethics Committee in favor of the Bank's president, Akinwumi Adesina.
After the June 4 meeting, the Board reiterated its agreement with the report of the Bank's Ethics Committee, in accordance with the applicable rule under resolution B / BG / 2008/11 of the Board of Governors.
The Council said that its chairman, Niale Kaba, played its role of accepting the conclusions of the Ethics Committee, according to the said resolution.
However, he said that an independent reviewer would review the process by which the Board's Ethics Committee and the Board of Governors' Bureau reached their decisions.
This will be closely followed by an independent and comprehensive review of the Bank's Complaints and Complaints Handling Policy.
He noted that Bank whistleblowers in violation of banking rules, regulations and laws have not provided a single piece of evidence compared to 250 pages of official supporting documentation from Adesina.
He stated that the whistleblower policy review aims to ensure that the policy is properly implemented and revised whenever necessary to avoid situations of this nature in the future.
In the words of the council, it is to ensure that "something like this never happens again".
