2019/20 Champions League: Pre-match 18-19 February

The group stages have been solved and the games of the round of 16 will start on February 18th.

Anxious for the elimination stages, there are still many opportunities for disorders, but the pioneers have already presented themselves. See below for previews of the first four games scheduled for next week.

Borussia Dortmund against Paris Saint-Germain

Borussia Dortmund (GER)

UEFA ranking: 14

End of 2018-19: Round of 16

Qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League was a nervous road for Borussia, reaching FC Barcelona's result with Inter Milan. excessive play by top players Roman Burki and Julian Weigl. However, the recent signing of Erling Haaland, a promising young scorer, suggests that Lucien Favre's team consists mainly of young talent and young stars. The BVB will need to regain their confidence and momentum to face PSG next week.

Paris Saint-Germain (FRA)

UEFA ranking: 7

End of 2018-19: Round of 16

The team from the French capital had an exemplary performance in the group stages, starting with a 3-0 victory over Real Madrid and remaining undefeated, with just two goals conceded. Recently, a team with a low performance in the Champions League, Neymar said publicly that he believes this year could be their year. PSG is the least favored favorite among many, and Kylian Mbappé's scoring power exists to justify it. Coming from a prominent place in Ligue 1, Parisians may well surpass their best 94-95 finals in this year's quarter-finals.

Atlistico Madrid – Liverpool

Atlistico Madrid (ESP)

UEFA ranking: 4

End of 2018-19: Round of 16

Atlistico was probably unhappy with the draw against Liverpool this season. Second place in the group stage, behind Juventus, was attributed to instability in defense, probably due to inexperience. Diego Simeone had several of his veteran defenders sold this year, and the loss of Antoine Griezmann slowed the counterattack. If the Spaniards advance, it will be due to the force of João Félix's attack and the miraculous interventions of goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

Liverpool (ENG)

UEFA ranking: 8

2018-19 Finish: Winners

The Reds look unstoppable, and the current champions have seen an almost perfect season so far. It is already assumed that they manage to win the Premier League title and many credit Jurgen Klopp for preparing this club, which was previously lackluster, in something that really should be seen. Winning last year in Madrid, Klopp reported that they occupied the locker room in Wanda Metropolitano and wondered out loud if he could ask Atlisto that room again. With top scorers Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in the attack on Liverpool, many expect the English team to pass through Atlisand maybe even the final one again.

Atalanta v Valencia

Atalanta (ITA)

UEFA ranking: 56

2018-19 Final: Europa League Qualifiers

Despite starting with three defeats in the group stage, Atalanta reached the first time in the Champions League. Taking blows at Dynamo Zagreb and Shakhtar, they qualified as a distant second behind Manchester City. With its unstable Serie A display this year, Gian Piero Gasperni's club can be said to be the weakest in the stadiums. Much will depend on the return of Mattia Caldara and Duvan Zapata, runner-up in the Golden Boot, if Atalanta survive this draw.

Valencia (ESP)

UEFA ranking: 25

2018-19 Final: Group Stage

Valencia qualified this year at the top of the group, starting their campaign with the victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. After suffering a brutal 3-0 defeat by Ajax in Spain, two more draws and a victory occurred between Valencia taking revenge on Ajax and winning 1-0 in Amsterdam. His talented line-up includes new additions to Jasper Cillessen and Maxi Gomez, but is offset by the loss of Neto and Zimone Zaza. Although Valencia are expected to advance to the final eight (for the first time since 2007), if they want to advance in astute tactical decisions, they will need to make up for the lack of resources compared to other clubs.

Tottenham vs RB Leipzig

Tottenham Hotspur (ENG)

UEFA ranking: 12

2018-19 Finish: Finals

Despite the runner-up last season, the gap between Spurs and champion Liverpool has increased dramatically in the past year. A devastating Premier League performance, with significant losses in the league, led to Mauricio Pochettino's serve in favor of Jose Mourinho. Harry Kane was confirmed in the North London squad, despite a persistent injury, while Wanyama was surprisingly removed from the team. Former Benfica player Gedzon Fernandes was hired to reinforce the squad, in addition to efforts made to recruit Milan striker Krzysztov Piatken. Tottenham are facing an uphill battle against RB Leipzig, but there is time to regain pace.

RB Leipzig (GER)

UEFA ranking: 37

2018-19 Final: Europa League Group Stage

In his first season as a coach, Julian Nagelsmann brought Leipzig his first Champions League qualification. A completely young club, the squad boasts a young star who meets an English opponent for the first time. Emil Forsberg, Marcel Sabiter and, especially, Timo Werner scored the goals. The high-octane, goal-obsessed style of play maximizes goal opportunities and has proven to be a growing force in Germany. Group stage victories over Benfica and Lyon ensure that Tottenham are not in an easy draw.
